Description
This is a one-of-a-kind pipe by our in-house pipe maker Todd Brugman. Brugman is know for his unique style that is influenced by neo-classical Italian cues and Danish Minimalism with perfect straight grain orientation, highly contemporary yet harkens a classic and timeless aesthetic: it all comes together as his own style with an Americana aesthetic.
This particular pipe is of the shape “Billiard,” not the oldest western pipe shape (that would be a cutty), but one of the oldest, and the most traditional western pipe shape; every pipe maker ever has made a version of the billiard. It is often said “with a billiard you can see the true style and skill of a pipe maker.”
Brugman makes uses traditional English shape chart shaping cues for this billiard, yet has nuances of Italian Danish, and other contemporary shaping cues/style making a pipe that is clearly “painted with his own brush.”
In this pipe, Brugman flattens out the bottom of the stummel, makes the shank slightly oval (allowing it to make it more elegant yet have it robust), tappers the shank slightly and continuously and seamlessly to and trough the length of the stem, and creates a silhouette that is slightly more geometric than it traditionally would be, in a neo-classical Italian fashion, drawing from contemporary architecture and design. but also adds nuanced contemporary attributes, making this pipe both timeless and new.
The stem of this pipe is made from a one-of-kind limited edition vulcanite with lots of colors swirled together, but never gets too loud as the colors are neutral in value and chroma and balance with the warm stain.
Yet despite all the subtle modern attributes, this pipe clearly carries both Brugmans unique “American” aesthetic and has has a classic and timeless look, as you’d expect with a Brugman pipe.
This pipes composition is dynamic and sophisticated.
Perfectly drilled and engineered, this pipe is as much a precision instrument as it is a work of art clearly painted with Brugman’s hand.
