Nick Johnson “Glitch” Pipe With Plateau

$350.00

Here we have another very unique pipe from Nick Johnson. He is always thinking outside the box (I don’t think he even knows where the box is), and any one familiar with his pipes would expect nothing less than the unexpected!

Pipe Maker Todd Brugman states:

Nick Johnson is easily one of the most whimsical, conceptual, and creative pipe makers in the US… Always pushing boundaries… his ability to push pipe making to new uncharted areas is inspiring to me, and I am sure many others…

This is a very contemporary take on the classic English shape chart “billiard.” Despite it’s being possibly the most recognizable and common of all classic pipe shapes, Johnson took this billiard in a new and unique direction.

This pipe has an overall muscular aesthetic via its contours and proportions, yet due to its stout design it should ‘clench’ quite comfortably. Johnson sandblasted this pipe, bringing out beautiful ring grain all the way around the pipe. But the most noticeable and unique attributes of this pipe is the “glitch” motif shaped into the stummel.

At around 1/3 the way up the outside of chamber walls, the pipe sharply dips in on one flank, and comes out on the opposite flank, creating a circular “glitch” in the pipe, reminiscent of glitches we see in this modern day digital world. This “glitch” motif plays with organic vs geometric (or in this case digital) contrasting compositional elements, brilliantly executed to make a pipe that is beautiful composed and relevant to the both the contemporary world via the digital elements and the old world via wooden technology, making it almost “steam punk.”

It also has an acrylic inlay that harkens a digital aesthetic via it’s geometric nature that adds cohesiveness to the entire composition.

This pipe would be a great piece for anyone’s collection, a conversation piece as well as a great looking pipe that will smoke wonderfully. This pipe is expertly crafted from the highest quality briar and guaranteed to smoke cool and sweet!

This pipe measures 5 1/8″ long with a 2 5/8″ tall bowl.
