Boston pipe maker, Todd Brugman, is an in-house pipe maker at LJ Peretti Co. Prior to that, Brugman learnt the art and trade of pipe making in a classical way. He spent many years studying and apprenticing at LJ Peretti Co. where he made his professional debut in November 2021. His pipes, both with classic and contemporary attributes, have been a breath of fresh air. The community has noticed, and he’s been working day and night to keep up with the demand!
Todd continues to follow the grain on this “inverted tulip” pipe, which shows spectacular straight grain all around, transitioning perfectly to birdseye on the bottom and the rim, which is beveled slightly inwards. The shank is extended with an extra piece of briar attached to the tapered stem. He used a light blonde stain to capture the understated perfection of the wood. On the larger side, measuring 6 1/8″ with a 2 1/2″ bowl.
Clearly Brugman is “painting with his own brush.”
