Todd Brugman 1/8 Bent Prince With Mammoth Tusk Stem Inlay

$365.00

Boston pipe maker, Todd Brugman, is an in-house pipe maker at LJ Peretti Co. Prior to that, Brugman learnt the art and trade of pipe making in a classical way. He spent many years studying and apprenticing at LJ Peretti Co. where he made his professional debut in November 2021. His pipes, both with classic and contemporary attributes, have been a breath of fresh air. The community has noticed, and he’s been working day and night to keep up with the demand!

Here’s a pipe with a contemporary spin on two classic pipes, canted and paneled. Despite Bregman’s contemporary spin in his signature straight grain style, the pipe has a classic and timeless ascetic. There are nuances of neo-classic Italian shaping cues, as well as English shape chart cues, yet Brugman, again, made a new classic. The forward canted stummel along with the slight taper of the shank with its graduated bevels flow right into the “half saddle stem” creating a dynamic sense of movement, one that could have existed in the early 20th century Italian “Futurists” art movement, or today, 2022, as it does. The pipe has been carefully handcrafted and the attention to detail shaping the pipe to reveal the stunning 360 degree straight grain of the briar that won’t be lost on anyone; memorizing birdseye covers the top and bottom flank of the shank, is flat, making this a sitter.

Clearly Brugman is “painting with his own brush.”

Description

Boston pipe maker, Todd Brugman, is an in-house pipe maker at LJ Peretti Co. Prior to that, Brugman learnt the art and trade of pipe making in a classical way. He spent many years studying and apprenticing at LJ Peretti Co. where he made his professional debut in November 2021. His pipes, both with classic and contemporary attributes, have been a breath of fresh air. The community has noticed, and he’s been working day and night to keep up with the demand!

Here’s a pipe with a contemporary spin on a classic “English Shape Chart” pipe, “The Prince” AKA “The Prince of Wales.” There are nuances of neo-classic Italian shaping cues, as well as English shape chart cues, per usual with Brugman, yet, again, he made a new classic. He chose 4000 year old mammoth tusk as a stem inlay to add contrast to the dark stain and black stem, also to evoke the past and present just by using contemporary shaping cues. This pipe evokes a classic English-Americana aesthetic. Brugman composed this pipe to make a truly unique, classic, and timeless pipe. Despite Bregman’s contemporary spin and his signature straight grain style, 360 degree straight grain here, this pipe has a classic and timeless ascetic as per usual.
Brugman has been making a name for himself in the pipe making world, as is no surprise, as clearly Brugman is “painting with his own brush.”
