Description
This is a pipe from an estate collection we received, all pipes in this collection were lightly used and clearly cared for; we cleaned up and restored what was needed, and that was minimal due to the excellent care the previous owner took. We just had to do some light reeming, buffing, and polishing.
This is an estate Elliot Nachwalter pipe from his time at “Pipe Works” in Vermont, he also made pipes for Briar Workshop and owned the famous tobacco and pipe shop Wilke. He is an expert American pipe maker who specialized in a Danish Freehand style that became his own, he painted with his own brush making beautiful pipes for decades.
This particular Nachwalter/Pipe Works is Danish style 1/4 Billiard with a slight “Danish Egg” aesthetic beautifully excited with Danish minimalism shaping cues seen in the bowl and some clear neo-classical Italian influence that can be seen in the shank transition; a true American melting pot of styles that meld together perfectly becoming its own style.
This pipe smooth with 360 degree straight grain. The bowl it wide with fairly thin walls, just thick enough, making it a light pipe that can be easily clenched, and the quarter bend only makes the balance, both physical and aesthetic better.
This clearly expertly crafted pipe would make a great addition to any pipe smokers collection.
