Mastro Geppetto’s 2018 Pipe of the Year is one of the most unique pieces I’ve had the pleasure to photograph. It’s in a traditional calabash shape with a silver band and military-mounted saddle bit. The finish is carved into a craggy texture, with a broad, smooth rim and another smooth area for the maker’s stamp. Most remarkable is the silver work on the band, which shows a relief carving of Gepetto’s creation from the classic Italian tale Pinocchio. It’s a perfect fit for this collectable Italian pipe.
