Castello is easily one of, if not arguably, the best pipe brand in the world. They age and cure their own briar, unheard of amongst brands, producing high quality sweet smoking briar. There workers study the blocks, always bringing out the best grains and/or finish from the blocks, producing stunning works of art.
This Pipe has the foil dot on the left side of the stem, for the stem logo, opposed to the standard white bar logo (the white bar being on the vast majority of pipes, while the foil dot is much more rare). This foil dot was Castello’s original stem logo/adornment. It changed to the bar when the first stared selling to the US, but is still used on occasion to maintain the logo as a trademark.
This Castello old antiquari 2k pot, aka Shape 17, is very English in style, yet it has, as one would expect from Castello, subtle neo-classical Italian shaping cues, just enough to be clearly a Castello yet retain a timeless aesthetic. It has stunning ring grain, that is accentuated by a their “old antiquari” sandblast finish.
