Castello 2K Old Antiquarian Shape 55 1/8 Bent Pot (Sandblasted Brown)
Castello is easily one of, if not arguably, the best pipe brand in the world. They age and cure their own briar, unheard of amongst brands, producing high quality sweet smoking briar. There workers study the blocks, always bringing out the best grains and/or finish from the blocks, producing stunning works of art.
This 2k shape number “55” (their unique spin on a 1/8 bent pot) is one of their most unique & recognizable shapes as well as one of their most collected shaped. It typically has a protruding heel transition, often referred to as a chin, this rendition’s heel is much more subtle. Here, this “55” is in one of Castello’s more famous finishes, their “Old Antiquarian.” It has very epitome of “neo-classical Italian” shaping cues, yet as one would expect from Castello it has that beautiful and unique aesthetic. The grain orientation of this sandblast finish, creates delicate and detailed wavy ring grain in relief. The composition in totality makes for a pipe with unique physicality via its tactile surface, and shaping.
